750GB MyBook
I have been looking at expanding my PC’s storage capacity for a couple of months now. I had a 120GB Freecom external hard drive that has stopped working, I was lucky that it was the connections on the case rather than the hard drive itself so I didn’t lose any data. That is now sat in my Freecom MediaPlayer full of this seasons TV episodes and some movies. The 2 hard drive in the PC are also getting full so it was definitely time to make my move.
I decided to go external again for the simple reason that the PC already had 2 hard drives in and I often need to transfer files to and from the laptop and my PC at work too. I was ideally looking for something around the 1 TB mark, just to say I had that much storage really. I ended up with a 750 Gig Western Digital MyBook for £80. The usable space on the drive is 700 Gig to that works out 12p per Gig of storage. The MyBook is very sleek in design and sports a very nice blue glowing light when switched on that moves side to side/up and down when data is being transferred.
I have backed up a lot of data onto the MyBook already including over 200 Gig of video files, this was done pretty quickly and without any problems at all . The only thing I do have to say is that the drive came with some software and autorun files actually on the external drive. When running these a screen popped up with buttons on but no text or description as to what each button did. That said the drive works great and is currently my prize piece of tech.
As I’ve mentioned before on this blog, selecting your web hosting is a crucial part of any business, the same applies to your personal sites too. You will on most cases not require managed hosting or dedicated servers but you will want the best available for the best price. Web hosting deals come in all sizes and varieties, most with an unimaginable amount of add-on’s available. So how can you know which is the best to choose when there are so many offers out there? Well help is at hand with sites that provide the best website hosting reviews.
Reviewing what other people think of their hosting is often the best way to judge how good it is, the site will always hit you with the great discounts and introductory offers but reading reviews like the ones on upperhost.com will give you a great idea as to what hosts such as bluehost, hostmonster and web hosting pad are really like.
When checking out reviews be sure to see how many people have reviewed the service, the more the better, but also remember 1 bad review in 50 is sort of expected. Read what people are saying particularly about the services/add-on’s you will be using and don’t get tempted in to adding additional upgrades that you don’t need.

ShareFile Interface
ShareFile.com offers you a different approach to file sharing as a business. This
FTP site allows you to easily create folders in a secure area and then upload and save files there for access at a later date. You can set up permissions to allow clients to view work and to collaborate on a project from various places around the country or even world.
The interface can be customized and you can even add your company logo to give a very professional look to both your employee’s and customers. This is all done through a Virtual Data Room (VDR), these are more cost effective than physical data rooms and allow remote access, all you need is an internet connection. The service also offers Virtual Deal Room functionality where you can collection documents from various team members around the globe and make sure they are kept secure as each one is encrypted and protected by a 128 bit SSL for transactions.

Undo that mess!
I was just talking about hosting and dedicated servers, then went on my way to surf the net as I normally do and came across this, what the….:
Can you imaging having to sort a problem out with that server?
I’d be sure to pull the wrong wire out about 10 times before getting the right one.
I know the wires at that back of both my PC and TV are a little tangled but that is unbelievable. I remember seeing something similar at the place I used to work at. I cannot believe that can be a good thing.
It makes me realize that it is best to leave the hosting configuration of my servers up to experts, people who know what they’re doing.
